SUPERINTENDENT

Chatham School District
Angoon, Alaska

The five member Chatham School District Board of Education is seeking a superintendent.  The District is located in Southeast Alaska and is comprised of four school communities – Angoon, Gustavus, Klukwan and Tenakee.   The District office is located in Angoon on Admiralty Island approximately 55 miles southwest of Juneau and 41 miles northeast of Sitka.  Applicants are being sought from candidates who have extensive successful experience as a senior administrator and a proven history of improving student achievement.  The salary is anticipated to be $90,000 (DOE) with an attractive fringe benefit package including subsidized modern housing.

The application deadline and other desired candidate qualifications and attributes will be determined by the board in a meeting to be scheduled later in April.  The position has a July 2008 starting date.

SUPERINTENDENT 

Tanana City School District 

**Search Extended Until Filled**

The five member Tanana School District Board of Education is seeking a superintendent following the resignation of Ms. Dorothy Jordan who has served as the superintendent for the past five years.  The District is located two miles west of the junction of the Tanana and Yukon Rivers, 130 air miles west of Fairbanks.  Applicants are being sought from candidates who have successful experience as a school and/or district administrator.  The salary will be $85,000 (DOE) with an attractive fringe benefit package that includes furnished housing.  The position has a July 2008 starting date.

The Association of Alaska School Boards (AASB) is conducting the search.  Closing date for receipt of all application material is April 11. On April 14 the Board will review all applications and select the finalists.  The successful candidates will be invited to Tanana for on-site interviews at the Board’s expense on April 22 and 23.  Dr. Bruce Johnson will serve as the AASB search consultant for the Tanana superintendent search.

The following items must accompany all applications: a completed application (available on line) and cover letter, a confidential placement file including
academic transcripts, a minimum of three confidential AASB reference forms primarily from board members and/or individuals who have supervised the candidate (available on line), current resume, transcripts, and certificate copy. Candidates who do not possess an Alaska Type B Certificate with a superintendent endorsement should begin the process with the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development.

Superintendent Principal

Hoonah City Schools is seeking applications for a full time, superintendent principal.  Applications may be picked up at the school administration office or be accessed on the district website at www.hoonahschools.org.

SALARY:                              $85,000 DOE

TYPE OF POSITION:          Full Time

CLOSING DATE:                 May 9, 2008; 4:00 PM or until filled

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Delegate authority and responsibility to the staff in accordance with board policy.
  • Organize the staff in a manner, which best enables the district to provide an effective program of instruction and adjust staff responsibilities to accommodate the district needs. 
  • Act as Chief Executive Officer for Hoonah City Schools. Fully implement board policies, manage business affairs of school district and provide for the annual audit of district accounts and business procedures. 
  • Prepare monthly board agenda.
  • Submit short and long-range activities to the school board.
  • Provide all district personnel management. 
  • Work with the State Department of Education and legislative leaders to promote activities of the district.
  • Oversee all school district operations.
  • Manage and direct all personnel.
  • Provide educational leadership for the district.
  • Evaluate all classified and certificated personnel.
  • Work closely with city government and prepare the annual budget plus revisions and present to the board and city.
  • Enforce requisition and purchase order policies and regulations.
  • Make all financial reports required by laws or board policy and prepare reports for public release.
  • Analyze the district financial condition and present the board with proposals for meeting financial needs.
  • Maintain the district’s non-instructional and instructional operations.
  • Establish master schedules for classes, for certified staff, and for classified employees.
  • Schedules staff development and training.
  • Oversees existing grants and directs them as described.
  • Write grants for school program development

Annette Island, Alaska
The five member Annette Island School District Board of Education is seeking a superintendent   The Board is especially interested in applicants who place students first and have demonstrated outstanding leadership in school finance, improving student achievement and securing public confidence. The compensation package includes a $96,000-103,000 salary (DOE) with an attractive fringe benefit package.
