AASB Board of Directors
A 14 member Board of Directors, consisting of 10 directors and four officers governs AASB. The Board, elected by membership at the Annual Conference, represents all regions of the state. The membership, as a whole, passes the resolutions, which establish the positions taken by the Association before the legislature and other agencies throughout the year.
The AASB Board of Directors gathered for a quarterly meeting in Anchorage. Board Goals (2010-2012)
• Provide board development that brings all boards and board members to competence in effective governance under the principles of Board Standards.
• Strengthen the political influence of AASB and its members at the local, state and national level representing the diversity of interests that exist within AASB and involving the total membership.
• Assist local school boards in engaging parents, families and their communities in shaping and enriching the education of Alaska’s children.
• Expand local school board capacity to ensure the highest potential student achievement and prepare Alaska’s children and youth for the future.
• Sustain the association and its membership by strengthening AASB’s capacity to effectively serve its members.
• Inspire innovation to meet the demands of a rapidly changing world and continue public education as the foundation of democracy.
