Superintendent Vacancies


The following items must accompany all applications: a completed application (available on line) and cover letter, a confidential placement file including academic transcripts, a minimum of three confidential AASB reference forms primarily from board members and/or individuals who have supervised the candidate (available on line), current resume, transcripts, and certificate copy. Candidates who do not possess an Alaska Type B Certificate with a superintendent endorsement should begin the process with the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development.

Iditarod Area School District

The Iditarod Area Board of Education is seeking a superintendent for its multi-site 500 student school district which includes 200 correspondence students.  The schools are located along the Yukon and Kuskokwim Rivers in Alaska.

Candidates should have experience as a central office administrator.  The board is especially interested in applicants who are good communicators with staff and community members.  Experience in working with people of diverse ethnic backgrounds is also required.   A salary range between $95,000-$105,000 will be offered the successful candidate.  The district provides a comprehensive benefits package.

Kashunamiut School District

Seeks Qualified Applicants for Superintendent

The Kashunamiut School District is a single site regional educational attendance area serving approximately 330 students in Chevak, Alaska. The ideal candidate is a successful district office administrator or superintendent with a commitment to a culturally relevant school instructional program, experience in curriculum alignment, knowledge of school finance, and who is able to collaborate with staff to improve student achievement. The new superintendent is expected to begin work on July 1, 2012.

The Association of Alaska School Boards (AASB) is conducting the search. Closing date for all application material is March 8, 2012. AASB will review the qualifications of each candidate and make a report directly to the Board. The Board will review all applications and select a limited number of candidates to interview. Interviews for finalists will be conducted in the district March 28-29, 2012.

Cordova City School District

The Cordova School Board is seeking an experienced administrator for its 325 student, single site, school system.  The district is located in Alaska’s scenic Prince William Sound 150 miles southeast of Anchorage. The board is especially interested in candidates who are able to support staff’s continued focus on student academic success, willing to include the involvement of community and staff in a collegial approach to decision making, and have the skills to strengthen the financial position of the district in order to improve the instructional program.   The board also has a desire to hire someone that will work closely with the Elementary Principal/Teacher. Candidates must also provide leadership for the continued implementation and renewal of the district’s strategic plan.  A salary range between $101,000-111,000 will be offered to the successful candidate.

Pribilof School District

The Pribilof School Board is seeking a superintendent who has central office experience and understands school business operations. The Pribilof School District is one of the most isolated Districts in Alaska, but is also one of the most unique and beautiful. The islands are located in the Bering Sea and are approximately 770 miles southwest of Anchorage.

The Board is especially interested in applicants who can work to develop partnerships at the local, state and federal level, and work to improve instruction in a technologically rich learning environment. A salary range between $95-105,000 as well as an attractive benefits package will be offered the successful candidate. Denali Borough School District

The Denali Borough School Board is seeking a superintendent for its high achieving school district. The Borough is located in interior Alaska and is the gateway to Denali National Park. The Board is especially interested in applicants with a broad administrative background and understanding of rural education issues, with experience in curriculum, digital learning, budget and school finance, and in supporting ongoing partnerships with business, government and non-profits. A salary range between $105-115,000 will be offered the successful candidate.
