The World is Who We Are

Book Review by Tam Agosti-Gisler, President, Anchorage School Board
Linda Kantner writes a true story entitled The World is Who We Are which is rich and raw, heart-warming and tear-jerking, all in one. Having personally experienced her wry antics and clever sense of humor, I fully intended this to be a book to make me laugh out loud. I never expected to be grasping for tissue to wipe my eyes or feeling the urge to track down some of my former students and tell them how they’d actually been MY teachers. This book holds wonderful insights for all educators about the challenges and joys of English Language Learners, refugees, immigrants and all who suffer from childhood traumas and the damage of racism. It is a highly recommended read for all school board members who set policies that impact these students. You can order a copy of The World is Who We Are from Lulu.com.
