On this Indigenous Peoples’ Day, the Association of Alaska School Boards acknowledges the Indigenous Peoples of the land, all 229 tribes of Alaska, where our students, their parents, and board members learn, live, and raise their families. AASB honors and respects the Ancestral Lands on which all Alaskans live, work, play, and learn, and encourages activities and practices that acknowledge and recognize the past and present stewardship of these lands.
AASB celebrates the rich history of Indigenous people; the vibrant cultures kept alive through sharing stories, traditions, and values; and the contributions of Indigenous people.
Whether you choose to celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day by partaking in your favorite subsistence foods, reading Indigenous authors, spending time with your elders, creating or supporting Indigenous art, purchasing from Indigenous businesses, or simply taking some time to reflect, AASB wishes you a happy Indigenous Peoples’ Day.
