Custom Board Trainings

AASB provides in-district workshops on topics such as Teamwork, Board/Superintendent Relations, School Board Self-Evaluation, Goal Setting, and more. We are more than willing to work with your district to develop tailored workshops or facilitate group work sessions that meet your needs.

Roles & Responsibilities

A Roles and Responsibilities training provides board members with a clear understanding of their governance responsibilities and strategic role in shaping district policy and student success. The session covers topics such as effective board-superintendent relations, policy-making, fiscal oversight, and community engagement, and can be customized to address areas of need. Participants will leave better equipped to lead with clarity, unity, and accountability.

Board Self-Assessment

A facilitated Self-Assessment guides board members through the process of evaluating their performance as a governance team, identifying strengths and areas for growth. This training emphasizes the value of reflection and continuous improvement, helping boards align their work with district goals and best practices. By engaging in self-assessment, boards can strengthen teamwork, clarify roles, and enhance their impact on student achievement.

Effective Meetings

An Effective Meetings training equips school board members with tools to run efficient, transparent, and productive meetings grounded in parliamentary procedure (Robert’s Rules of Order). Participants will explore agenda development, the rules of debate, and how to use motions appropriately to support informed decision-making. This training fosters respectful dialogue, clarity in the process, and increased public trust in board governance.

Facilitated Superintendent Evaluation

AASB’s facilitated Superintendent Evaluation supports the board in conducting a fair and reflective evaluation process focused on continuous improvement and strengthening the board-superintendent relationship. This session clarifies evaluation procedures, aligns performance goals with district priorities, and fosters constructive dialogue. Boards will leave with a shared understanding of expectations, improved communication, and a stronger foundation for leadership accountability.

Policy Workshop

A Policy Workshop provides board members and district leadership with a hands-on opportunity to review, revise, and align district policies with current law, best practices, and local priorities. The service includes a policy audit of select chapters within the district’s existing manual, focused on priorities identified in collaboration with district leadership. The session offers guidance on policy development, adoption, and implementation, helping participants use policy as a strategic governance tool.
