Join us in congratulating Tim Doran of the Fairbanks North Star Borough School Board for winning the 2026 Carl Rose Governance Award!
Tim has served on the Fairbanks board since 2017 as president, vice president, and treasurer, and has chaired the curriculum, budget, and family engagement committees. His colleagues credit him with writing the board’s norms and with steadily reminding everyone why those norms matter. His board shares that his calm presence and respect for people he disagrees with have helped to build trust with district staff, the public, and the Borough Assembly. Board President Bobby Burgess notes, with affection, that Tim asks more questions than anyone, and that those questions almost always make the work better.
Tim also serves on the AASB Board of Directors. Beyond the boardroom, he has spent more than three decades in service to Fairbanks, including the Literacy Council of Alaska, founding the Denali Science Camp, and serving as a weekly docent at the Museum of the North.
Tim’s name will join past recipients on the permanent plaque in the AASB office, and he receives a free registration to the 2027 Leadership Fly-In in Juneau.
