Yukon Flats Selects New Superintendent
The Board of Education for Yukon Flats School District is pleased to announce their unanimous choice for a new Superintendent, Deborah Lancaster, beginning July 1, 2021.
The Board wishes to express their sincere thanks to everyone who participated and supported the search for a new superintendent during these extraordinary times. The Board also greatly appreciates the public involvement in the search process.
On April 3rd, the Board interviewed each of the three finalists for 75 minutes in executive session. The Board then met to compare and contrast the results of the interviews, the candidate’s applications, public input, and references. Upon conclusion of the candidate review process, the Board took formal action in open session and unanimously supported the appointment of Deborah Lancaster. The Board and Ms. Lancaster have agreed to a 2-year contract and a starting salary of $150,000.
Ms. Lancaster is currently Superintendent of Wrangell Public Schools and has 12 years of experience in rural Alaska. As a teacher, principal and superintendent, Lancaster has assumed a variety of responsibilities including budget development and implementation, special education director, federal programs director, curriculum developer and strategic planner. Lancaster holds teacher certification in Biology and an M.A. in Educational Leadership and a Doctorate in Chiropractic.
Upon her appointment, Ms. Lancaster had this to say: “I am excited and honored to be chosen as the new superintendent for the Yukon Flats School District. I am looking forward to meeting everyone in all of the communities and begin planning for the next school year. Thank you all so much!”
Ms. Lancaster will be working with current superintendent, Lance Bowie, to arrange for the two of them to work together on the transition to new district leadership
The Association of Alaska School Boards (AASB) was contracted to conduct and facilitate the search for the new superintendent.
