Support Alaska Digital Citizenship Week, September 24-28

Online safety and digital citizenship are critical issues for families and communities around the globe. Alaska youth are reporting increases in instances of cyberbullying, according to the 2017 Youth Risk Behavior Survey. AASB joins the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development (DEED) in supporting the annual Alaska Digital Citizenship Week each September.

During the week of September 24-28 we encourage students, teachers, families and communities to engage in conversations about the basic concepts of citizenship in the digital world – reputation, safety, relationships and copyright. To help facilitate these conversations, DEED provides nationally recognized digital citizenship curriculum materials, and spreading the word among our many educational colleagues via social media and direct outreach.

Sponsoring a parent night at your local school to discuss the themes of digital citizenship is one way to participate. Watch AASB’s Facebook and Twitter during September 24-28 for more resources and ideas on getting involved. Examples of how your school or community is supporting Alaska Digital Citizenship Week can be shared using the social media hashtag #AKDigitalCitizenship.

Thanks for your support!
