If our Board loses a quorum during an Executive Session, can action be taken when we return to the open meeting?

Our Board moved to go into Executive Session, but one person left during the Executive Session and we lost our quorum. When the Board returned to the open meeting, would we have been able to take any action? We didn’t because we weren’t sure what to do.

Answer: Your Board was able to hold an Executive Session, since it had a quorum when it began. However, returning to the open meeting without a quorum meant the board could not vote on any decisions made during the Executive Session. Your board took the correct approach by not taking any action.
