WEBINAR: Back to School Fall 2021 – CDC COVID-19 Prevention Strategies for K-12 Schools

The Centers for Disease Control will host a national webinar Friday, September 3, 2021 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. ET on COVID-19 prevention strategies for K-12 schools to provide state, tribal, local, and territorial (STLT) education and public health partners with the latest information and resources on the COVID-19 outbreak and U.S. efforts. Invited call participants include STLT education agencies, school district leadership, and education organizations in addition to health directors, epidemiologists, health officials, public health laboratory directors, and nongovernmental partners. Questions may be submitted in advance via email to eocevent335@nullcdc.gov to prioritize addressing them during the webinar.

NEW BROADBAND FUNDING: Second Round of FCC Funding for Broadband and Devices for Off-Campus Use by Students, Schools, and Libraries

In view of outstanding demand and the recent spike in coronavirus cases, the FCC announced in a recent  press release that they will open a second application filing window for schools and libraries to request funding for connected devices and broadband connections for off-campus use by students, school staff, and library patrons for the current 2021-22 school year.  The second application filing window will open on September 28 and close on October 13.  Eligible schools and libraries will be able to apply for financial support for eligible equipment and services received or delivered between July 1, 2021 and June 30, 2022 for students, school staff and library patrons with unmet needs.

WEBINAR: Alaska School Leaders COVID-19 Update on School Opening

On July 27, 2021 the Department of Health and Social Services provided an update to the latest science regarding COVID-19, and recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Centers for Disease Control concerning school opening. On July 20, 2021 webinar provides an overview of recently released CDC guidance for schools and is geared toward Alaska school leaders. Dr. Coleman Cutchins and Dr. Lisa Rabinowitz were the primary presenters.
